Founder, Inspirefest (Chair)
Ann O’Dea is CEO and co-founder of Silicon Republic, one of Europe’s leading technology and innovation news services, reporting online since 2001. She is the founder of Europe’s premier sci-tech event with diversity and inclusion at its core: Inspirefest. She is also the driving force behind Siliconrepublic.com’s Women Invent campaign, which champions women role models in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and aims to tackle the gender gap in the knowledge industries.
O’Dea was awarded a fellowship in May 2015 from the Irish Computer Society for her work in championing diversity in the STEM sectors. The same year, she received a Net Visionary award from the Irish Internet Association (IIA), and became the first and only woman to be inducted into the IIA’s Hall of Fame. She was named Media Woman of the Year at the Irish Tatler Women of the Year Awards 2014 and, last year, she was presented with the Women Mean Business award for Empowering Women.
O’Dea sits on the advisory boards of the Digital Youth Council and Teen Turn, an initiative to provide school-going girls from disadvantaged areas with work experience in the STEM sector. She is a regular speaker and moderator at tech and STEM events.
