Dr Shaun O’Boyle
Producer and science communicator
Dr Shaun O’Boyle is a producer and science communicator who is working to improve support and visibility of LGBTQ scientists. He is the founder of Irish network House of STEM and one of the organisers of #LGBTSTEMDay, the first international day for LGBTQ people in science, technology, engineering and maths.
Shaun is one half of producing partnership Bureau, which makes radio documentaries and podcasts that feature diverse voices and unexpected stories. He has also produced science reports for the BBC and was the producer on Newstalk’s weekly science show, Futureproof.
He develops events, exhibitions and projects that connect with science in creative ways. He worked at Science Gallery Dublin from 2010 to 2016, and is currently working on a new gallery at Wellcome Collection, an oral history archive of science in India, and a new project at Dublin City University to introduce scientific terminology to Irish Sign Language.
Shaun teaches workshops and courses on science and science communication. He has a PhD in developmental biology, and his postdoctoral research was in the area of genetics and evolution.
