Video journalist, RTÉ
Philip Bromwell is an award-winning video journalist at RTÉ, Ireland’s national public service broadcaster. During a career spanning two decades, he has reported on a wealth of stories at home and abroad. Highlights include covering the Olympic Games, the Oscars, the refugee crisis and a rare assignment to Tibet.
Philip always works as a ‘one-man band’, filming and editing his own stories. For the past five years, he has been one of world’s leading pioneers of mobile journalism. He has shot dozens of reports for RTÉ on his iPhone, consistently pushing the boundaries of ‘mojo’ storytelling.
Philip believes it makes sense for broadcasters and publishers to use mobile to create content when audiences are increasingly consuming it on their mobiles anyway. Alongside his reporting role, he now leads a small team in the RTÉ newsroom who produce original ‘digital-first’ stories on mobile devices for the broadcaster’s growing mobile audience.
Philip believes this is an exciting time to be a journalist, with the potent combination of audience behaviour and technology changing how the news is gathered, packaged and distributed.
